Hello! I’m Melissa!
My specialty is helping women who are experiencing a difficult transition into motherhood. We tend to assume this to be the happiest time of our lives, however it doesn’t always work out that way. My clients come to me for help with daily struggles such as emotional distress, feelings of inadequacy, lack of motivation, excessive worrying, relationship and family concerns, and lack of support. I also like working with women who long to feel supported, but feel stuck because life can be overwhelming. The pain that arises from having any of these concerns can be debilitating at times.
I provide support and help guide women to empower themselves so they can live a healthy, fulfilling life. Seven years of experience working with women has shown me that therapy is effective towards healing and moving forward. My main therapy focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, with an emphasis on mindfulness. This is an effective mode of treatment to reduce emotional pain by focusing on thought processes and being present in the moment. CBT is also the leading treatment method to reduce postpartum depression and anxiety. CBT also includes a “toolbox” of skills that can be used in everyday life. My clients have commented about the usefulness of this toolbox, as it helps when daily challenges pop up.
Throughout the process of therapy and learning new skills, women can become confident and impact others in a positive way. I know it can be difficult to reach out for support and feeling stuck can be overwhelming, but together we can work through those difficulties.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with many years of experience helping others work on these issues. I graduated from Millersville University with a master’s degree in psychology. In my free time I like to hike, spend time with family and friends, and of course, hang out with my awesome labradoodle named Sammy.
