Carolyn Deck, LSW

Hi, I’m Carolyn ~

As a Licensed Social Worker I’m a strong believer in a person-centered approach to treatment. No one lives in a vacuum ~ our struggles and successes are as a result of our own thoughts, feelings and behaviors, as well as factors in our external environment.

My specialty is working with issues affecting families; addiction, codependency, divorce, blended families, and life transitions. Families of an addict or alcoholic come to me for support, education and guidance. As someone with a family history of addiction (and recovery) I have the capacity to be compassionate and empathetic, as well as offer resources and strategies for establishing healthy boundaries and encourage self-care.

Having two children of my own, I also have a passion for working with adolescents and young adults on issues of self-esteem, depression, trauma, anger, peer pressure, family “stuff”, communication, and a host of other challenges that come with this fragile life stage. I get great satisfaction in seeing my young clients become more self-assured, feeling that they’re not in this alone, and that there is someone who not only listens, but “gets it”. Together we work on developing strategies and behaviors to help the individual feel better.

Establishing a trusting relationship with my clients is my primary goal. I do this through using various techniques of treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, experiential therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness, family systems theory, solutions-based treatment and relational psychotherapy.

In my personal life I like to spend time with my kids, friends and family, work out, hike, garden, and spend time lots of time at the shore. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Lancaster has been “home” for over 20 years now. I am a Licensed Social Worker receiving both my bachelors and masters degrees from Millersville University.

My hope is to offer hope ~ if you are interested in my services please call or email me and we can decide if we’re a good fit. Here is my email:
